College Council for 2010/2011 are:
Dr. Robert Labuc President Dr. Elizabeth Dill-Macky Honorary TreasurerElizabeth graduated from UQ then moved south to NSW to do a small animal internship at the University of Sydney. Her specialty training was undertaken in the USA where she did a small animal medicine residency at the University of Florida followed by some time as a clinical instructor at the University of Pennsylvania. After working in private practice in Australia and the UK, she spent eight years working as a small animal medicine clinician at the University of Sydney's Veterinary Centre at Camden. In 2000, she joined The Animal Referral Hospital, a 24-hour referral and emergency hospital in Sydney. Here she was one of the internal medicine specialists and a director of the hospital. In 2007 she took on a new role as a Technical Services Veterinarian with Hill's Pet Nutrition. Elizabeth is a Member of the Australian College of Veterinary Scientists and a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine.
Dr. Amanda Burrows, Chief Examiner Mandy graduated from Murdoch University Veterinary School in 1985 and completed a pathology and internal medicine residency at the same institution. She became a Member of the Australian College of Veterinary Scientists in Canine Medicine in 1991. She underwent a dermatology residency training program with Dr Ken Mason in Brisbane in 1993 and following her residency she became a Fellow of the Australian College of Veterinary Scientists in Veterinary Dermatology in 1998. Mandy is the Director of the Dermatology clinic at Murdoch University, a registered specialist and consultant in veterinary dermatology and an adjunct lecturer in dermatology at Murdoch University Veterinary Hospital teaching undergraduate 4th and 5th year veterinary students and the dermatology unit of the Masters degree for veterinary post graduate students. She currently serves as Assistant Chief Examiner (Fellowship) on the Board of Examiners and is the Secretary of the Dermatology Chapter of the Australian College of Veterinary Scientists. She serves on the Board of the international Journal of Veterinary Dermatology and was the Publicity Chair for the Executive Organising Committee for the World Veterinary Dermatology Congress in 2008. She has extensive experience with clinical dermatology in companion animals and she likes teaching dermatology to veterinary undergraduate and postgraduate students Dr. Ruth Sutcliffe Honorary SecretaryRuth graduated from the University of Melbourne in 1987 and after a brief time in mixed practice began to focus on small animal work in Melbourne. She obtained Membership in Small Animal Medicine in 2003 and has subsequently been involved in mentoring candidates and examining in small animal medicine. Ruth obtained a Master of Veterinary Studies degree through Murdoch University in 2007. Following a year spent travelling around the Top End of Australia by boa,t Ruth and her family have settled in Townsville where she works as a small animal veterinarian in a busy practice. Ruth is married with two daughters and enjoys boating in the tropics and studying theology. She is keen to develop networks between members and fellows of the College on a regional basis, particularly in areas outside the capital cities. ![]() Dr. Stuart Burrough Councillor Stuart Burrough was elected as the New Zealand representative on Council in 2002 and is currently serving his third three year term as a councillor. In 2007 he was elected as President of the College. He is also the Honorary Treasurer for New Zealand and as President, is an ex officio member of the Board of Examiners. He is responsible for liaison with the Small Animal medicine, Feline, Animal Welfare and Vet Zoo & Wildlife Medicine chapters. Stuart became a Member of the College in Small Animal Medicine in 1996. He is a director of The Vet Centre in Marlborough, a six vet NZVA BestPractice accredited clinic. His non-veterinary interests include sailing, scuba diving, water skiing and snow skiing. He is married with two children at university.
Graduated from the University of Sydney in 1986 and worked in several large animal and mixed practices until cured of the desire to become a large animal practitioner. Moved to the UK in 1990 and began the long road to small animal surgical specialisation. Completed Certificate in Small Animal Orthopaedics at the Royal College in 1994 then worked in referral practice before returning to Australia in 1996. Started residency in small animal surgery in private practice in Brisbane completing MACVSc in 1998. Moved to the University of Sydney as Senior Registrar then Acting Head of Surgery in 2000. Travelled to the US to the University of Florida as a visiting scholar in 2001 before returning as a founding partner of Veterinary Specialist Services in Brisbane. Appointment as Adjunct Associate Professor with the University of Queensland. Interests include urinary tract, vascular, neurological and orthopaedic surgery as well as animal welfare. Currently involved in several research projects with Westmead Children’s Hospital in Sydney and the University of Queensland. Has presented at numerous conferences in Australia and overseas, published widely in Veterinary Journals as well as several Textbooks. Philip is an elected member of Association Orthopaedic and a chartered member of the AVA. Philip is a Councillor of the Australian College of Veterinary Scientists and a member of the IRTF. Philip is the father of six beautiful children and a devoted supporter of the Queensland Reds and the Wallabies.
Michael is a University of Queensland graduate who worked in private practice in Queensland, Northern Ireland, London and Perth between 1978 and 84. Joined the Department of Agriculture and Food, Western Australia in the 1984. Gained Australian College of Veterinary Scientists qualification in epidemiology in 1989. His research career included leading a team studying the epidemiology of Caseous Lymphadenitis (CLA) in sheep. He gained his PhD on this subject and is the author of a chapter in "Infectious Diseases of Livestock”, 18 scientific papers and 33 international and national conference papers on CLA and other topics. He has been active in the Animal Welfare Chapter including being its president. He appreciates the great support he has from his family and enjoys travel, wine and creating food and music.
