College Awards 2010The Australian College of Veterinary Scientists would like to draw your attention to the annual awards that the College offers to veterinarians. Two of these, namely the College Prize and the Ian Clunies Ross Memorial Award, are designed to acknowledge the achievements of individual veterinarians, not necessarily members of the College, who have made significant contributions to the profession in a number of areas or fields. The selection criteria for both these awards are attached for your guidance. The Council of the Australian College of Veterinary Scientists seeks your assistance (and that of your staff and colleagues) in nominating members of the profession for the College Prize and the Ian Clunies Ross Memorial Award. These awards carry significant prestige and your assistance in identifying worthy veterinarians and putting them forward as nominees would be greatly appreciated. The College Prize (download criteria) is awarded to a veterinarian who has made an outstanding practical contribution to veterinary science or practice in Australia or New Zealand without the support of an academic environment and to whom finance and facilities are limited. The Awards Committee will consider the applicability of the contribution in the broad field of veterinary science. The Ian Clunies Ross Memorial Award (download criteria) has high academic and/or research accomplishment as its primary requisite. It is awarded to an Australian or New Zealand veterinarian making an outstanding contribution to veterinary science especially during the preceding five years. The College also offers the Fellowship Training Scholarship (download criteria) (value $7,700 in 2010) to a Member of the College who has successfully applied for the fellowship examination and seeks financial assistance to undertake or complete the approved training program. Although the award is based on merit, the financial needs of the applicant are considered, and the Fellowship Research Grant (download criteria) (value $1,000 in 2010) to a person performing research as part of a Fellowship training program approved by the ACVSc. The aim of the grant is to support either the research itself, analysis of results (e.g. statistical consultation), or preparation of papers for publication. The closing date for all Awards is 28 February 2010. Nominations should comply with the criteria, and should be forwarded to the College office, Building 3, 2404 Logan Road, Eight Mile Plains, Qld. 4113. For assistance please contact Dr. John Bolton, Chair of the College Awards Committee, by directing your enquiry through the College office, or Mrs. Elaine Lowe, College Manager on 07 3423 2016 or admin@acvsc.org.au .
